I have so many ideas of home decoration that you will love to do for your home from modern and formal spaces to approachable and rustic environments. I am back again with very creative DIY made from carton box. I made flower vase for my living room. We usually buy home décor things and there are many ways to decorate your home. But when you make decorative things instead of buying them, will be more satisfying.

Flower vases enhance the natural beauty of flowers and a beautiful flower vase is considered as the best decorating item for your favorite place.

Flower vases can brighten up any room, and that is why they are popular item in home décor. Flowers refresh the environment and bring life to living space but vases complements and enhance the beauty of flowers. You can make different sizes and colors of vases for any room. A vase is eye-catching design will stand out in any corner regardless of the type of flowers you decorate in it.

A vase is more constructive than just serving as a water source for cut flowers. The right vase will help a flower arrangement keep its form for the most eye-catching display throughout your event, and it will help support blooms in the best place.

Decorating your living with vases can add grace or charisma to a room if there is enough space to adequately house the vase. Vases can fill large empty spaces or corners in a decorative manner.

You can make tiny vases that can hold single flower as well as a bouquet of flowers. You can place them in you interiors as well as outdoors. They also represent attention to other items in the room, such as furniture or paintings. Vases can be filled with dried flowers or fresh flowers or you can decorate it with artificial flowers.

In market you can get many beautiful flower vases made from ceramic, glass, plastic, brass etc. But have you ever tried making flower vases at home? For the first time I tried making flower vase using carton box and the result was very satisfying. In this tutorial I will show you how I made this beautiful vase, that too with materials which are easily available in market.

How to make flower vase at home?

Beautiful vases are available online, but for me the most beautiful and unique one is made by me. You can make beautiful flower vase at home by recycling glass bottles or carton boxes. I made this vase by recycling carton box. It took only 2 days to make this vase and it turn out beautifully.

• Plaster of paris
• Glue
• Acrylic colors
• Decorative tread

  Lets start how to make flower vase from carton box step by step.

Step 1:

So the story of this beautiful vase begins from here. One day I ordered some fruits from an online store and they came in small rectangle shaped carton box. After removing fruits from it, I was about to discard that carton box. Then suddenly my creative mind stopped me and said “hey Smruti, let’s make something creative by recycling it”. Of course art and craft is my passion, so I kept that carton box back.  Literally for 2 days I was just thinking, what can I make out of it? Because the carton box was small, rectangular shaped and was not strong enough. But still my soul was not allowing me to throw the box. Then I remembered that only a few days back I had renovated a big vase from my living room corner with new flowers, and I still have old flowers that are still beautiful and can be used to decorate my home once again. The box was in rectangle shape. That was the first point that my mind suggested to me to make a flower vase out of it. Then I started shaping it. I was very happy. I grabbed all the material that was required to make the beautiful vase and started making it. 

Step 2:

The top portion of the vase should be open, so I removed the top portion of the box. I cut all sides of the top portion of the box in equal size.

Step 3:

Now the very important part was to make the carton box strong enough so that it can accept the layer of plaster of paris later. I have used masking tape to wrap cardboard box and make them strong. Now many of you might not have masking tape, it’s ok; there is an alternative to masking tape. You can use pieces of paper to cover the carton box. Stick pieces of paper with the help of glue and cover the box properly, but it will take time to dry. If you are choosing the second option instead of masking tape then make sure that the box is covered completely and dried properly before going to the next step.

Step 4:

Now the main part came where I had actually started shaping the vase. There were choices whether I can use plaster of paris or white cement (wall putti). You can go for any of them. I have chose plaster of paris .

Here are few reason why to go for plaster of paris-

• Plaster dries quickly, so it will take less time with painting and finishing the project.
• You can buy Plaster of Paris at online store or hardware store.

Plaster of Paris is a great material to use for craft projects because it is easy to prepare and sets in a few minutes. Mixing Plaster of Paris is easy but there are important steps to keep in mind to get good result.

Supplies needed:

• Plaster of paris powder
• Water
• Mixing container
• Spoon or spatula
• Measuring cup
• Brush
• acrylic paint (optional).

Take plaster of paris, glue and water in equal quantity. Remember the ratio here is 1:1:1. Mix all ingredients nicely to form proper consistency. Plaster of paris will make your base strong.

Step 5:

Start applying the mixture on the base quickly because plaster of paris dries easily. You won’t make a mixture and go somewhere because plaster of paris dries easily. Apply 2 to 3 layers of mixture with brush. Cover the box properly and let it dry.

Step 6:

Once it dries scrub it with sand paper to make the vase soft and in level.

Now the most interesting and important part is coloring. Choosing a proper color of your vase will decide its look and beauty. Choose proper color for vase according to the color of wall and furniture. I just wanted to keep it on my glass table top so I have painted it with very light color.

Use acrylic color for painting. I took white and yellow color. Put both colors on vase and dab with sponge. I will suggest you not to use brush for painting if want to merge 2 colors. Brush will leave the strokes visible on vase if have not merged properly. Use sponge to merge the color for nice effect. Mix color nicely to for proper shade. You can choose colors as per your choice.

Step 7:

Definitely its completely your choice how you want to decorate your vase. You can follow my steps to make a vase and then decorate it in your own way.

I chose red color string for decoration. Red color string looks good on white and yellow background. You can decorate it as per your choice. And the flower vase is ready. Put some vibrant flowers in vase and decorate your home. Let me know your reviews if you like this vase.
