What is doodle art and why it plays important role in life? I don’t like to say I have given my life to art, I prefer to say art has given me my life. I believe in the healing power of art because art has the power to transform, to illuminate, to educate, inspire and motivate.

At present our world is in the grasp of anxious pandemic COVID-19. People are now not only suffering from stress related to money and work but also dealing with the adverse effects of apprehension caused by this deadly virus. Stress and anxiety have always affected people but it is more important how we deal with this complex situation.

So how one handle these stress? For me art has the power of healing. Art therapy can prove to be greatly helpful in dealing with the present stressful environment of the pandemic ridden world as well as helps to relieve workplace anxiety.

There are many art forms that can be used to relieve the stress such as painting on canvas, mandala art, drawing warli art, doodle art and many more. Personally I love to do doodle art when I fill nervous, it helps me to distract from all my worries.

Doodle art

What is doodle art?

Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be composed of random and abstract lines, generally without ever lifting the drawing device from the paper, in which case it is usually called a “scribble”.

Why doodle art is called stress relief therapy?

“Unstructured drawing,” as researchers call it, has been studied to examine its effects on psychological distress. As the act of doodling can be carried out at a somewhat ‘thoughtless’ and random level, it shows that doodle can be a great way to strike into the unconscious mind. Even studies on cancer patients have found that some form of art has helped decrease nervous tension. Doodling can help realign purpose and therefore focus if we’re feeling particularly lost or aimless, thus reducing stress. And making art has been shown in studies to reduce the “stress hormone.”

Benefits of doodle art?

Beyond the cognitive benefits of attention and memory, there have been studies that show that drawing and making doodle art is satisfying and the brain shows it. One study examined doodlers drawing freeform and coloring a geometric pattern and found that the activity stimulated more blood flow to the prefrontal cortex. It acts in the same way like part of the brain that is activated by laughter, or dancing. One of the main benefit of doodle art is you feel more creative and will be able to solve the problem.

Doodle art Enhanced Creativity

Engaging the doodler inside can be an outstanding way to fire up imagination. When you get yourself in a groove on a piece of work, doodling can be brilliant way to trigger your artistic mind. Doodle art makes you feel happy, positive and is enjoyable. It allows you to return to tasks with a fresh perspective.

Improves Concentration

As per Andrade’s study Doodling has also been allied to concentration. The study shows that doodling fires up the brain’s ‘managerial resources’ which is a term to define cognitive processes that allow us to multi-task, focus and plan. In other words, doodling keeps our minds grounded in these long meetings or classes instead of running astray to fantasy about our next holiday.

What is the best pen for doodling?

It depends on what you want your final project to look like. You can use gel pens, colored pencils, fine-line markers, and crayons will also all work. Colored pencils give a softer look and allow you to shade and blend. With colored markers and gel pens, the colors will be more vibrant. Crayons create interesting textures.

What is doodle art for kids?

When you see your kid’s notebook scribbled with small random and meaningless drawings, like most parents, you might feel your kid is wasting time by drawing random things that don’t make any sense. You could tell them that a meaningful drawing or a drawing which makes sense is okay and shows the creative bent. However, you will be wrong in thinking and telling your child to do so because those spontaneous drawings or scribbles are more meaningful than anyone might think. Several scientific studies conclude that doodling is a great hobby to improve creativity, build the brain and memory, and helps relax and keep the kids energetic.

Doodle art is the way of expressing imaginative energy and a powerful way for kids to think and problem solving. Doodle art for kids is spontaneous random marks on paper using pens, crayons, or colored pencils. Science the studies shows that kids who doodle have better memories. Doodling is a way for kids to relieve tension and take random thoughts and solidify them into a purposeful whole. Bottom line–doodling actually helps kids learn. It is believed doodles indicate the random thoughts of a person and are the medium to express them. This art form doesn’t require much of drawing skills, and one can express oneself with any form, line, or shape. Though when a child puts his mind and effort into it, he can create incredible doodling artwork that can be interpreted like any other artwork. Doodling is, in fact, a creative method for anyone to express their random thoughts in the form of visual language to relieve stress.

Why Should You Encourage Your Kids to Doodle, what are benefits?

Doodling has been proved to be beneficial for kids and adults in many ways. You should encourage your kids to doddle because of the various benefits it has. Some of the benefits of doodle art for kids are:

1. Improves Hand-Eye Coordination

As your child keeps on doodling, their ability to draw improves, and this results in developing and improving his hand-eye coordination. Your kid would also learn the concept of space and distance as he starts drawing or shows their creativity in everyday objects.

2. Develops Literacy

Young kids lack structure when they start writing. A simple scribble is the starting point of creating a shape, whether in drawing or writing. Doodling helps them develop and improve their fine motor skills. Therefore, it is the first step towards writing and drawing.

3. Develops Fine Motor Skills

Your kid needs to develop fine motor skills, and as he holds a pencil or pen to doodle, he develops the ability to manipulate the pencil or pen as per his imagination. When kids see their doodles, they can understand what they have imagined and what they have created. As time passes, they learn to create what they imagine or see, hence develop their motor skills further.

4. Builds Memory Power

Doodling helps kids’ brains stay alert for a long time and benefit them to process more information and retain it as compared to when they are not doodling. Doodling, as they listen, engages their brain without them losing interest in the lecture. It also helps their brains to think and process the information at the same time.

5. Improves Concentration level

Most people think that as one is doodling, they are not paying attention and are distracted by scribbling. On the opposing, doodling doesn’t distract but helps a person stay focused by engaging and making them alert. Doodling improves the concentration as it keeps the child focus on the things going around them.

6. Boosts imagination

Doodling activates different areas of kids’ brains. So when the kid doodles, these inactive areas become active and help them get there at a creative solution, improve their creativity and non-cognitive skills. Explaining doodles will help them construct a story and unleash their imagination. This will give confidence to your child to explore his imagination and boost his creativity.

7. Helps to relieves Stress

Doodling helps relieve stress as drawing continuous patterns or lines over and over helps them relax and unwind. Doodling helps the kids feel free and relaxed.

8. Express Emotions

Expressing thoughts can boost your child’s confidence. Kids express their emotions through drawing and doodling is mostly the mirror image or visual expression of the unconscious mind and feelings. So, doodling helps the kids express their inner feelings and relieve the stress.
