I am back with a beautiful piece of true Indian art for living rooms. I really like to make crafts which represent the culture of India. I wanted to make a beautiful Rajasthani wall/door hanging craft for my living room; I tried to make this rajasthani elephant wall/door hanging craft and it really looks attractive. The door’s hangings are very easy to put as well as take down, and do not touch your wall/door. It is a traditional item made from fabric, wood, mirrors and decorative materials. But I tried to make it using cardboard, mirrors, 3d outliners, bangles and some decorative materials. I have used bright and poppy colors to color the elephants which enhances its beauty and complements your wall color. This wall décor gives a royal touch to your home and would be a nice gift item for Indian art lovers.

Material used:

• Cardboard
• Bangles
• Mirrors
• Acrylic color
• Pompom
• 3d outliners
• Decorative material.

Step 1:

I have used waste cardboard. Draw elephants drawing in Rajasthani style and make cutouts. Color selection is your choice. Color the cutouts as per your choice. I have colored it with cyan and yellow color.

Step 2:

The cutouts are ready. Make 2 big and 2 small cutouts.

 Step 3:

Now start coloring. Choose whatever color you like or that matches with your curtains or wall color. 2 cut outs I have colored with cyan color and rest 2 with yellow color.

Step 4:

Color the cut outs from front and back. Color the cut outs from front and back.

Step 5:

To make the elephants cutouts more attractive I have used 3d outliners to highlight the border. These are homemade 3d outliners.

What is 3d outliner?

Fevicryl 3D Outliners are wash proof and quick drying. Available in vibrant colors, use the outliners to trace or outline designs or to fill in color. Long narrow nozzle allows for superb outlining and raised patterns.

With 3d outliner you can create patterns to highlight designs painted on any surface. These 3d outliners are perfect to create beautiful outlines on glass, fabric, paper and wood and clay pot. You can also make these outliners at home.

How to prepare 3d outliners?

To make a 3d outliner I have used baby powder and fevicol in equal quantities. You can use any brand of baby powder. Mix both ingredients nicely to form proper consistency. Mix acrylic color as per your choice. Take any plastic square shape cutout to make a cone. Fill the color in the cone and seal it properly. Your homemade 3d outliner is ready. Now you can use it on any surface. Make sure that cone is sealed properly so that it will not dry.

Step 6:

Draw a outline with 3d outliners. Choose contrast color outliner, I have used yellow color outliners for cyan color elephant cutout and blue color outliner for yellow color elephant cutout. It will take time to dry. Let it dry properly.

Step 7:

Stick the mirrors. You can stick more mirrors and make design as per your choice. It’s ok if you don’t have mirrors; there are lots of things around us that we never notice which are thrown in a corner. Just look around and grab those things such as beads from old necklace, pearls or lace etc. and use them to decorate your craft.

Step 8:

I have decorated simple with diamond shape mirror and outliners. Simple design looks elegant.

Step 9:

Now the important things to make this hanging craft complete are bangles and thread. You can directly make hanger with thread but using bangles will add some extra charm to your décor. Wrap the bangles with golden color decorative lace.

Step 10:

Decorate it with pompoms and beads. Your Rajasthani elephants wall/door hanging craft is ready. Place it on your favorite wall. I hope this tutorial will help you in making this craft.
