The impressive design of Sweet Home wall décor is made of a cardboard, painted with acrylic paint, protected with a layer of plaster of paris. It is very easy to make and would be great idea for gifting purpose.

I really feel happy and proud when I recycle waste into beautiful and attractive decorative things. I was thinking to make something for my main door that will make my guests feel Welcome at my home. Making your guests feel warm and welcome is one of the best feelings in the world, and it doesn’t get any better when you hear it straight from them.

You will get thousands of things in the market to decorate your home, but the things made by you not only decorate your home but fills your love in your home. If you make stuff you love for your home, your home will be true reflection of you.

Amazing DIY craft welcome board décor for main door.-Sweet home wall hanging decor

To make this Sweet home wall décor, I have used cardboard, small plastic bottle, flowers, acrylic colors, ceramic powder and plaster of paris. Have you just observed how I made this beautiful décor with very few things? Yes you can also make attractive design wall décor like this. Things which I have used were available at my home. Only plaster of paris and ceramic powder I brought from a craft store which is near to my home. Many of you might be thinking, from where to buy all these stuff. These all materials are easily available online. Instead of ceramic powder you can use fevicryl mould it clay, both work same.

Step 1:

You need to be ready with all supplies before you start any project. The first supplies we need for this project is cardboard. If you want to use mdf board for this craft, you can buy them. You can use diary cover for this craft also. I have recycled cardboard to make this craft. Take 2 cardboard and cut them into equal size and stick them onto each other.  Now we need to align pieces of cardboard with masking tape to seal the open ends. Wrap the cardboards open ends with masking tape properly.

Step 2:

Cardboard is a great material to paint on since it’s so strong and inexpensive. Whether you want to paint the entire cardboard piece or create cardboard art, you should first prime the surface to get the best color possible.

Before painting your cardboard, use a flat brush to paint a thin layer of plaster of paris paste (paste made of plaster of paris, water and fevicol; all in equal quantity)   onto the cardboard in long and vertical strokes. Cardboard absorbs paint and dulls the colors, so plaster of paris paste will give the paint something to bind to, and enhance the colors of your painting. 

To make paste, take plaster of paris, glue and water all in equal quantity. Mix nicely to form proper consistency.

Step 3:

How to make paste from plaster of paris?

Now apply this paste of plaster of paris on cardboard and let it dry. Plaster of paris dries easily. I will take 1 hour to dry. Once dries apply any color as per your choice.

Acrylic colors are the best choice for painting the cardboards. Apply a very thin coat of paint and let it completely dry before applying another coat. This will give time for some of the moisture to evaporate rather soaking into the cardboard.

Step 4:

I thought it won’t look beautiful if I leave it as simple. Then I planned to make a flower pot and put some beautiful flowers in it which will make it more beautiful and impressive.

I wanted to make small flower pot for this board, so I took one small bottle to make flower pot. Coloring small bottle is very simple, add little quantity of color in the bottle and roll the bottle. Coloring the bottle from outside will take time to dry.

Step 5:

Stick the bottle on the board and enhance its beauty by placing flower bunch in it.

Step 6:

To make clay birds and “sweet home” on the board, I have used ceramic powder. Instead of using ceramic powder fevicryl mouldit clay or air dry modeling clay can be used. You can prepare ceramic clay dough and store it in airtight container for 15 to 20 days.

Step 7:

How to prepare ceramic powder clay:-

 Empty the pack of ceramic powder in a bowl and add 1/3 portion of fevicol in it. Mix both ingredients properly. If you feel the mixer is very loose, you can add little ceramic power or all purpose flour in it. Or if you feel the mixer is very dry, you can add little glue in it. But remember do not add water in the mixer. Apply oil on your hands and on the floor. Knead the dough for 5 to 10 minutes until it gets soft. Pack the dough in airtight container. You can store this clay dough for 15 to 20 days.

Step 8:

Write “sweet home” using pencil and paste clay on it. Once it dries, apply white color on it. Making clay love birds would add some extra charm to your “sweet home” board. Place some flowers and pearls around it and decorate it in your way.  “Sweet home” wall décor is ready. You can definitely try this wall décor and place it on your favorite wall.

For these all DIY I have used the material which was I had at my home and some material I brought from craft store. You can buy these materials online also. But mostly I use the material which is not in use anymore and make beautiful DIY home décor things out of it. My aim is to recycle the things instead of throwing them in garbage.
